Dehradun: Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences has achieved a landmark milestone in medical education in Uttarakhand. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase in the institute’s MBBS intake to 250 seats, making it the first medical college in the state to secure approval for 250 seats in only its third batch. The achievement is being hailed as a major milestone in the state’s medical education sector.
In a short span of time, Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences has established a strong national reputation through its commitment to high-quality medical education, advanced healthcare facilities, and robust institutional infrastructure. The institute offers world-class teaching, state-of-the-art laboratories, cutting-edge medical equipment, an experienced faculty, and a multi-specialty hospital equipped with advanced healthcare services.
The NMC’s approval for 250 MBBS seats is seen as recognition of the institute’s high academic standards, quality medical education, and strong healthcare infrastructure. Admissions to the additional seats for the upcoming academic session will be conducted through the central counselling process.
Innovation and Excellence in Healthcare
Graphic Era Medical College has also earned recognition for several pioneering achievements in clinical care and medical research. The institute successfully performed the first POEM (Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy) procedure on a five-year-old child in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, giving the patient a new lease on life. It has also successfully treated 50 patients with blocked food pipes without surgery.
In another significant achievement, the institute became one of the first in Uttarakhand and neighboring states to perform TEER (Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair), enabling heart valve repair without open-heart surgery. Doctors at the institute have also saved the eyesight of two premature newborns through advanced neonatal care.
Graphic Era Medical College is also the first medical college in India to receive accreditation under the 6th Edition NABH Standards, covering more than 600 quality benchmarks.

To celebrate the achievement, a cake-cutting ceremony was organized in the presence of senior officials, faculty members, doctors, and students. Those present included Dr. Naresh Kumar Sharma (Registrar, Graphic Era Deemed to be University), Dr. Archana Thakur (Dean), Dr. Puneet Tyagi (Director), Dr. N.K. Mohindroo (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Subhash Gupta (Director, Infrastructure), Dr. Gaurav Ratudi (Additional Medical Superintendent), along with heads of various academic and clinical departments, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and students, who celebrated the historic milestone together.
