EcoGroup Society and Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board Conduct Awareness Drive on Plastic and E-Waste at Shri Guru Ram Rai Public College, Sahastradhara Road, Dehradun*
Dehradun, May 16, 2025 — In a significant step towards environmental awareness and sustainable waste management, EcoGroup Society, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board, organized a comprehensive awareness campaign at Shri Guru Ram Rai Public College, Sahastradhara Road. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 300 students, who engaged actively in discussions and activities centered around plastic waste and electronic waste (e-waste) management.
The session aimed to sensitize students to the environmental and health hazards posed by the unchecked disposal of plastic and electronic waste. Experts from the EcoGroup Society highlighted the alarming consequences of waste accumulation in households and commercial establishments. They emphasized the urgent need for collective action and educated students on simple, practical methods to reduce, reuse, and responsibly dispose of such waste.
One of the key highlights of the event was the introduction of eco-bricks — plastic bottles tightly packed with non-biodegradable plastic waste to create reusable building blocks. Students showed great interest in this innovative concept and pledged their support to the campaign by committing to make eco-bricks and spread awareness in their communities. The initiative aims to reduce the plastic footprint in Uttarakhand and promote creative recycling methods.
The event also included an announcement of upcoming competitions themed around plastic and e-waste, aimed at encouraging students to think creatively about waste reduction. Participants were informed about the guidelines, themes, and incentives of these contests. It was also announced that students who excel in these competitions would be honored with attractive prizes to recognize their efforts and inspire others.
EcoGroup Society expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Principal of Shri Guru Ram Rai Public College and the dedicated faculty members whose support and cooperation played a vital role in the success of the program.
The campaign was made possible through the dedicated efforts of key team members from EcoGroup Society, including Ashish Garg, Anil Kumar Mehta, Bhavya Tandon, Naman Panwar, Kritika Gupta, Charvi Arora, and Rinku, who managed various aspects of the event and interacted closely with the students.
This joint initiative reflects a growing commitment towards environmental responsibility and youth engagement in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time — waste pollution.
