Uttarkashi, October 11:
Under the joint aegis of the Panchayati Raj Department and the Youth Welfare Department, a major cleanliness drive was organized today in Village Jhala, located along the Gangotri National Highway, as part of the ongoing “Thank You Nature” campaign.
With the active support of the District Administration, waste collection vehicles and sanitation workers were deployed through the Block Development Officer. Employees of the Nagar Panchayat also participated in the drive, and the collected plastic waste was sent to a recycling center, reinforcing the campaign’s focus on environmental conservation.
Gram Pradhan (Village Head) Abhishek Rautela said that the “Thank You Nature” campaign is steadily growing stronger through public participation.
“Today’s initiative proves that when the administration, panchayats, and citizens come together, real change becomes inevitable,”
he stated.
Rautela further informed that he has requested the District Magistrate to develop Village Jhala as a ‘Model Village’ for cleanliness and sustainable waste management. Responding positively, the District Magistrate has assured that a Master Plan will soon be prepared to make Jhala an exemplary clean village.
Quoting his vision, the Gram Pradhan added —
“Our goal is not just to collect waste, but to change people’s mindset. When villagers start thanking their surroundings, nature will, in turn, bless us. That is the true spirit of the ‘Thank You Nature’ campaign.”
The campaign saw active participation from Yuvak Mangal Dal Jhala, local hoteliers, and residents of the village. Over time, it has also received consistent support from organizations like DRS Recycling Organisation, Atulya Ganga, and IDEAL.
With the District Administration’s renewed support, the “Thank You Nature” movement has gained fresh momentum. Work will soon begin to transform Village Jhala into a Model Cleanliness Village, setting an example for the entire region.
